Summary |
1862 Dane County, Wisconsin Plat Book, A Research Tool for the Genealogist : A Modern Reprint of the Original with an Alphabetical Listing of Landowners. This soft cover 8.5-inch by 11-inch volume contains thirty-five 1861 township plats whose boundaries are derived from the original federal survey, a map of Dane County, and plats of Black Earth, Cambridge, Pheasant Branch, Clinton, and Stoughton. Though this publication is identified as a reprint of an 1862 plat book, it actually reprints plats whose publication date was 1861. The title of those 1861 plats is the Map of Dane County by A. Ligowski. The thirty-five township maps include ones for the townships of Albion, Berry, Black Earth, Blooming Grove, Blue Mounds, Bristol, Burke, Christiana, Cottage Grove, Cross Plains, Dane, Deerfield, Dunkirk, Dunn, Fitchburg, Madison, Mazomanie, Medina, Middleton, Montrose, Oregon, Perry, Pleasant Springs, Primrose, Roxbury, Rutland, Springdale, Springfield, Sun Prairie, Vermont, Verona, Vienna, Westport, WIndsor, and York. Contemporary additions to this modern reprint include: an introduction with information about Dane County in 1862; a 136-page listing of Dane County landowners; and a section featuring reprints of historic photographs. Landowners whose names appear on the 1861 plats are listed alphabetically by last name with additional information including their first name, and the township and section(s) in which their land was located. Historic photos include images of Camp Randall; the Dane County Courthouse; Christina (later Cross Plains); Lars David Requie home in Town of Deerfield; East Koshkonong Church; former residence of Rasmus Anderson in Town of Albion; series of photos of Utica; Dresen's tavern in Cross Plains; William Seston home in Town of Berry; Christian and Fredericka Morrick, Town of Springdale; and Civil War soldier Ole Wettleson. |
