Summary |
Rural artists of Wisconsin looks at the work of 30 rural Wisconsin artists living during the first half of the 20th century and includes a brief biography of each person. The book also focuses on the rural art movement in Wisconsin, the subject of statewide exhibitions held from 1940-1948. The artists in this publication were among those whose work was exhibited. Exhibition criteria stated that: all participants had to be rural farm or village people, either currently or in essential background; they were to be lay artists, or non-professionals, making their livings through other occupations; and their work was to be original. Includes illustrations. |
