Scope & Content |
The Wisconsin Foundry and Machine Company Materials visually document the functions and output of a small foundry and machine shop in the early to mid-20th century. The collection is chiefly photographic in nature, and includes both loose photographs and photographs bound into product albums and scrapbooks. A large portion of the photographs were taken by professional photographers and studios from the Madison, Wisconsin area, including Black's, Photo Art, Rierson's, and McVicar's Photo Service. Also included in the collection are many photographic negatives, product catalogs, machinery specification sheets, price lists, two folded blueprints, and the company's original Articles of Incorporation. Of particular interest are group photographs taken of the company's employees while performing their jobs or attending company events, photographs of "machine shows" at the Capitol Square in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, and a small assortment of photographs taken of women working at an area cannery in the 1930s. A collection survey exists for this material. In-house users please click on the Custom button at the right to go to the Inventory field.
