Summary |
Map of Dane County, Wisconsin. This is a map of Dane County that was cut and pasted into a bound atlas. It is often referred to as the Dane County Map of 1862. However, its publication date is noted as 1861. It contains thirty-five 1861 township plats whose boundaries are derived from the original federal survey, a map of Dane County, and plats of Black Earth, Cambridge, Pheasant Branch, Clinton, and Stoughton. The thirty-five township maps include ones for the townships of Albion, Berry, Black Earth, Blooming Grove, Blue Mounds, Bristol, Burke, Chirstiana, Cottage Grove, Cross Plains, Dane, Deerfield, Dunkirk, Dunn, Fitchburg, Madison, Mazomanie, Medina, Middleton, Montrose, Oregon, Perry, Pleasant Springs, Primrose, Roxbury, Rutland, Springdale, Springfield, Sun Prairie, Vermont, Verona, Vienna, Westport, Windsor, and York. This particular atlas was disassembled in order to take photographs of its pages. The pages are extremely fragile and, as a result, they are unavailable for direct research use. However, the photographs taken were used to create a publication that reprints each of the plats. That reprint can be used. |
