Scope & Content My Dad in the Early Days of Rural Mail Delivery in Dane County, Wis. is a short essay written by Glen W. Wheeler in 1984 describing the daily work activities and duties of his father, Leslie C. Wheeler, who was one of the first RFD (Rural Free Delivery) mail carriers from the Windsor, Wis. post office in the 1910s. The essay includes a description of the route he traveled with lists of family farms he delivered mail to; additional duties performed while delivering mail, including selling stamps and making out money orders; gifts given to the carriers for being dependable; and descriptions of ongoing care of the horses. Attached to the essay is a township map of the area with Leslie Wheeler's route outlined in black.
